Thanks to Tsunami Cycles for providing FREE 5 Minute Tune-ups. This turned out to be the best FrankenBike yet and I think the grassroots effort to make this a truly great event has now been set into motion.  I spoke with just about everyone who showed up and it seems that everyone had a great time.   (I felt like a kid at his own birthday party)  Once again, a lot of bikes, parts and gear traded hands.  For those of you that see a photo with you or your item(s) you are welcome to email me and I will drop a caption under your photo with your description and/or contact info. That or bring it to FrankenBike #5. Once again, thanks to all who showed up or helped get the word out.  Pics...

FrankenBike # 2

July 30th 2005 The old Grateful Shed 3800 S. Congress Austin, TX 78704 FrankenBike # 2 was great!  Thanks to everyone who showed up and thanks to everyone who helped get the word out.  As you can see from the pictures below, a lot of people with a lot of parts, gear and bikes made it out.  There were even a few surprises including: Brian Henry's Mystery Tandem Bike...  the Story goes:  A friend of mine pulled it out of his 89 year old neighbors attic.  She said it had been up there since she moved in around 1952.  They were going to throw it away and since I  had never seen such a tandem  - Rear/Dual steering capability - I was happy to take it off their hands.  I have the two original Springer seats and one set of handlebars.  The frame has some bends in it, no big deal to straighten.  The sprockets are skip-tooth design and requires two skip-tooth chains.  Pedals are barely hanging in there, probably beyond saving.  There were wheels with it but I'm not sure if they are original or not.  The cranks and bottom brackets are going to be tricky.   Plan:  Dismantle for sandblasting.  The frame is going to be painted the baddest red I can find.  The steering arm that connects the rear bars to the front forks will be chromed as will the cranks, sprockets, seat springs, posts, handle bars, rims and spokes.  Seat pans will be refurbished with new leather. Help:  I need (2) skip tooth chains.  I would also like more information on the bike itself.  What is it?  Who made it?  What year? Recommendations for outsourcing some of the work would be appreciated as well as any parts.  Viewings at FrankenBike events from time to time."  Email Brain here if you have any parts, advise or questions regarding his Mystery Tandem Bike.  Pics...
